Emotional integration is essential for national integration...

Indians must know the difference between Tribal life & Urban life, different religions, languages, costumes etc. Then only we Indians will stay united in spite of this diversity. Padmanabha B. Acharya (who recently worked as Governor of Nagaland) and Mr. Dilip Paranjape ( General Secretary of the trust 'Indian National Fellowship Centre' since July 2014 till today) initiated to build bridges between 'mainland' India and the Northeast by hosting young tribal boys and girls from the Northeast into the homes & families in Mumbai.

Through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in 1966, the concepts of "Student Experience in Inter - State living" and "My Home Is India" were developed and both the projects became unique experiences.

  • From 10 January 1966, for full 2 months, these Parishad workers met nearly 250 leaders from educational, social, cultural, political fields; visited 150 places of importance; addressed 50 student's meetings covering nearly 115 institutions.
  • In NEFA, the Vidyarthi Parishad leaders spent 8 days in Siang division and experienced village life in Pasighat, Oying, Mir Mir, Balek and Mobo. In the plains of Assam, the tour covered Dibrugarh. Sibsagar, Jorhat, Simalguri, Kajiranga, Dimapur, Guwahati, Barpeta, Masungram of K & J Hills and Shillong - capital of Assam. These 14 days in Nagaland gave these educated youth from Bombay a wonderful and golden opportunity to tour the interior and to know the youth of Nagaland.

SEIL – Students Experience in Inter – State Living

We are one in soul and heart..!
1966 -SEIL was established by Mr. Padmanabh Acharya & Mr. Dilip Paranjape with the help of ABVP. First Group of more than 58 North East boy/girl students visited Mumbai (Maharashtra).

Students Experience in Inter- State Living (SEIL) is one of the humble efforts by students' and professors' organisation – Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad -to open the gates of new horizon to the students' energy. SEIL attempts to bring close the youth of our country from different parts. It aims at over-all development of the students. The project is a step towards the emotional integration of our Nation. Believing firmly in the constructive work, Parishad is confident that SEIL will open the eyes of the educated youth to the grave problems of tribal people and urge them to accept the challenge to this and next generations in our Motherland. It aims at giving the youth (from schools and colleges in various parts of India), the experience how unity in diversity is the characteristic feature of India.

A group of delegates from North-East India travelled to North and South India. Thereby they became aware of the culture, food and heritage of various states they visited. This included reception program, site seeing of historical places, cultural programmes, interaction with notable personalities etc. Becoming a part of this tour gave them the "feel" that even in diversity, we are one in soul and heart.

SEIL has widened its activities for the overall development of individuals through skill development programmes, which ensure that students do not get attracted to various destructive activities such as terrorism. To minimize the rate of such anti-social activities prevailing in students, Yuva Vikas Kendra (YVK) was built where students are given internship opportunities in various sectors all over India.

Due to differences in culture, looks & languages, the people of this region feel left out from the rest of the country. The programme focuses on instilling the spirit of unity in the minds of the youth. The students of the North-East region and their families experience a lack of exposure, which gets compensated by this cultural exchange programme. SEIL is wonderful inspiring example which proved 'how family interventions can bring positive changes '.

The work was done before 40 years that is from 4 decades got the speed and worked properly for North – East people. To help them grow more, we planned for Vividha Udeshiya Kendra Project and was built by giving the name of Yuva Vikas Kendra.

YVK (Yuva Vikas Kendra) was planned under SEIL project [Regd.No.F-1464(Bom)1966-67 under Public Trust Act] on 22 May 2002 & was established for skill development on 21 December 2003, sponsored by ABVP. Finance minister C.P.Thakur, Vijaya Chakravarti & other dignitaries attended the function on the invitation of Secretary(Guwahati) Mr. Siddhartha Dev Sharma & Co-ordinator (NorthEast & Assam) Mr. Shyam Moga.

Book bank; Vacation Employment Bureau; Indo - Foreign Student Bureau; Holiday camps to rural areas; Competitions & felicitations of students & volunteers;. Discussions on topics like- 'why my party?' etc. were organised. 'Smriti manjusha' was published annually. Swami Vivekanand jayanti, Mahakavi Kalidas jayanti, Lokmanya Tilak punyatithi & Maharshi Karve puyatithi were celebrated in many colleges to bring the youth together with a positive message. Students with parents and teachers were invited during holidays for camps in the tribal a reas of Ashagad (Dahanu), Amban (Vikramgad taluka) and Talasari, to do 'Shramadan' in these Vanvasi programmes.

Indian National Fellowship Centre, with the help of Mumbai activists started in Nagaland Computer Training Center .

The Process continues.... In the journey of last 50+ years, projects – SEIL(Students' Experience in Inter-state Living) & MHI (My Home India), making friendship, bonding of families, connecting different fellow countrymen was a small but powerful step to overcome social barriers. It is God’s grace to be in the midst of such inspiring friends continuing their work for over 5 decades and even today.
